January 13, 2009: Gah-buh

I didn’t read much today — a friend’s opening scene, the first part of a manuscript for another friend — and I didn’t actually write (much) but I did spend a lot of time thinking about the mess that is Dragonfly. I think I’m making progress. Of course, I could just be spinning my wheels facing in another direction — it feels like I’m getting somewhere because the view is new.

One good thing is that the climax of the book involves all three of my major characters. The question I’ve been asking myself for the last 24 hours or so is, “How does each character’s story lead to that climax?” I’ve also been asking myself (again!) what each character wants. The cool thing is that I’m getting new answers to the question, answers that resonate. I think the two questions are working together to give me new insights; I’m hoping so, anyway.

So, all in all, a good day.
